Now that you have a plan…now what?

2 All a man’s ways seem innocent to him,
but motives are weighed by the LORD.

3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and your plans will succeed. (Proverb 16:2-3 NIV)

And

20 Listen to advice and accept instruction,
and in the end you will be wise.

21 Many are the plans in a man’s heart,
but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.

 22 What a man desires is unfailing love [a] ;
better to be poor than a liar. (Proverbs 19: 20-22 NIV)

And

9 In his heart a man plans his course,
but the LORD determines his steps. (Proverbs 16:9 NIV)

When we commit good to God, or for that matter, when we commit to anyone, what does that mean?

If you break it down in the Latin, it means "to send with."  There are three common definitions which I think are valuable to remember.  One means to to "pledge or obligate" — which is the sense of to be "totally committed."  The other is to "put in trust or charge" as in to "commit to someone’s care."  And the last is just "to do" — often seen in the context of "to commit a crime" (don’t do this, please! ;) )

Can you see how "commit your plans to God" is a powerful action and statement?  First, it says that man will have plans.  And if you’ve been following this process, you should by now, have plans, plans which are in alignment with God’s will or work for you.

Now we reached a passage, we’ve been waiting for, " your plans will succeed."  That is music to my ears, and hopefully to you!  And what do we need to do?  To commit them to God:

  1. It means to put God in trust of those plans — commit the plans to Him
  2. It  means pledging oneself to God to do these plans with committment
  3. It means to go out and do them — commit

Are you ready to do those?

Actions

Is there a part of you which feels only you are doing these plans, or that you have God’s trust in them?  Write down your answer.

Write down a pledge to God that you, along him, will do as you have planned:

Write down the first actual action step, a small, clearly defined ACTION that you can do right now!

Prayer

In your prayer, first commit to God that you will trust him, pledge that you will seek to allow him to guide your steps to carry out these plans.  Invite God in with your trust, and WAIT for a response to feel him guiding you.
