Focus instead of being Double Minded
If you don’t know what you’re doing, pray to the Father. He loves to help. You’ll get his help, and won’t be condescended to when you ask for it. Ask boldly, believingly, without a second thought. People who "worry their prayers" are like wind-whipped waves. Don’t think you’re going to get anything from the Master that way, adrift at sea, keeping all your options open. (James 1:5-8 Message)
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. (James 1:5-8 NIV)
The visual of being "tossed by the wind" and "adrift at sea" is something I connect to. It comes from having doubts or "keeping all your options open."
There are so many things in the world, directions we can take, goals we seek to achieve that we can end up with nothing. I know exactly what that is like — I have myself felt the pull of starting multiple businesses because I couldn’t focus on which one, or keeping many options open in a career path.
It means losing focus and direction. Can you relate to that?
In these passages, it says to ask for Wisdom. And this will be a big theme in the path to creating truth wealth based on Biblical principles.
As God for Wisdom and believe. With the Wisdom you receive, focus then on what your goals are and do not doubt. That is something within our control, the degree to which we doubt.
How many people "worry their prayers"? I know that I do?
I "worry" that my prayers aren’t answered, or my prayers are simply a statement of my worries.
In neither case am I banishing doubt from my thought. And this is an area where on the path to Biblical wealth must be defined first.
Actions
What are the areas of doubt?
Do you doubt that God hears you and wants to help?
Ask yourself and let it sit because I’ve found that this type of doubt is one that falls well beneath the conscious thinking. When you look at that question, how do you feel? Be honest with the question and the answer, and know that God can work through that.
Do you doubt that you deserve the good things God can do for you?
Prayer
Write out in as "bold" and "believingly" as you can for God’s wisdom. Physically write it out on in this space — I know, I know — I tend to just skip those interactive things too, thinking, "If I can think it, it’s the same as if I do it." But it’s not!
Write out your prayer right now in how you ask first of all for Wisdom, and second to remove doubt, and third to remove the many options so that you are no longer a double-minded man.
